“The Addicts” Discussion + Art Activity

This short lesson includes a link to the short story “The Addicts” by William Morrison and a suggested YouTube recording of the audio. The story follows Palmer and Louise, a couple stranded on an who are surrounded by flesh-eating aliens. Palmer is a marak addict who refuses to take action to fight what he sees as their inevitable deaths. The lesson breaks the story into sections and offers suggested questions to ask after each section; there are notes about key details from the text, as well as open-ended discussion questions to ask after concluding the reading. After reading, there is an art activity where participants use a graphic organizer to brainstorm and create a collage about their own lives, based on themes from the story!
