Welcome to Novel Exchanges!
Learning is a lifelong journey.
Novel Exchanges’ mission is to enrich lives and minds through interactive story readings and discussion. We believe that stories connect us to our shared human values, and that meaningful dialogue about stories helps us to better understand ourselves and others. We combine structured, experienced facilitation with powerful, timeless short stories by a diverse range of authors in order to promote critical thinking skills, deep reflection, and a love of literature and learning for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Story-Driven Dialogue: Facilitation Services for Organizations
No matter what community your organization serves, there is a story that will resonate with your shared values. Foster reflection, build empathy and connection across diverse perspectives, and strengthen communication and collaboration through the power of story-driven dialogue. Novel Exchanges is a unique take on a book club that requires zero preparation from participants. With expert facilitation and carefully selected stories, participants engage in meaningful conversations about the personal and social problems that impact our daily lives.
Professional Tutoring: Humanities for Ages 12-18
Novel Exchanges prepares scholars to navigate the world by developing self-directed learning skills that allow young people to pursue their interests and achieve their goals in the 21st century. Using a 6-question reading comprehension and 4 writing moves, students will engage with a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts in order to learn how to think critically and analyze ideas, as well as express their own ideas clearly and convincingly. By teaching simple, repeatable frameworks, Novel Exchanges supports young scholars towards becoming independent thinkers!
Adult Seminar Classes: Short Story Discussions for Ages 21+
Offering both virtual and in-person options, Novel Exchanges’ evening adult seminar classes are an opportunity for literature-lovers to gather and discuss incredible short stories. Even after we’ve graduated, we benefit from critically thinking about texts, listening to understand others’ perspectives, and articulating our own ideas and opinions. Don’t waste your evening doomscrolling! Challenge yourself to read and think deeply amongst a community who shares the core value that stories matter.
★★★★★
Jesse did a fantastic of prompting the residents with discussion questions. What was refreshing to all of us was how engaging he was and how he drank up and pondered everyone’s views and discussion points.

“He’s engaging, knowledgeable and stimulates thought!” – John C., resident at Brightwood Senior Living
★★★★★
I loved the open-ended discussion style and how free everyone was to jump in, add on, and contribute their thoughts. Jesse is a powerful teacher who leads the discussions and keeps everyone on track, and he has obviously put a lot of effort into preparing for each session.
