Join us on Monday, 8/25 for this 1.5 hour discussion of Ursela Le Guin’s short story “Coming of Age in Karhide”. This story takes place on the same planet as her famous novel The Left Hand of Darkness. On Gethen, individuals have no fixed biological sex. Instead, they undergo a process of “kemmer” in which they change their gender for sexual reproduction. The story follows a teenager’s coming-of-age as they navigate puberty, giving us the opportunity to discuss our own social norms around gender identity and biological sex.
