Join us on July 22 from 7pm-8:30pm EST for this one-session discussion of Octavia Butler’s short story “Bloodchild”. The story is set on an alien planet where human beings are used as hosts for the eggs of an alien species called the Tlic. In the story, the protagonist Gan must decide whether or not to risk the potential pain that could come with being impregnated by T’gatoi, a Tlic with whom he shares a deep connection. Butler referred to “Bloodchild” as her “male pregnancy story”; in our session we will discuss bodily autonomy, gender roles, and what it means to love and sacrifice for love.
