SUMMARY:How We Treat Others: Story-Driven Dialogue for ages 14-17
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to show kindness\, and why do we choose it? W
hen and why do we withhold our kindness? How do we justify the mistreatmen
t of others?\n\nIn this four-day literature course\, students explore how
we treat others through three classic short stories: "Speech Sounds" by Oc
tavia Butler\, "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson\, and "A Very Old Man With
Enormous Wings" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Each day’s 1‑hour session
invites students to read closely\, discuss deeply\, and write thoughtfully
using two core tools: a 6‑question reading framework (analyzing the nar
 rator\, characterization\, setting\, plot\, message\, and theme) and 4 wri
 ting moves (summary\, claim\, evidence\, analysis).\n\nBy the end of the w
eek\, students will:\n\n Analyze the motives that shape our actions towar
ds others\n Strengthen their ability to support claims with textual evide
nce\n Participate in a Socratic seminar exploring the connections between
texts and ideas\n Draft and refine a short essay with guided feedback\n
