SUMMARY:How We See Ourselves: Story-Driven Dialogue for ages 10-13
DESCRIPTION:What are the stories that we tell about ourselves? Why do we te
ll these stories\, and how can those stories help us -- or hurt us?\n\nIn
this four-day literature course\, students explore how we develop our sens
e of self by telling stories about ourselves and others --whether or not t
hose stories are true! We'll read "The Good Deed" by Marion Dane Bauer\, "
Charles" by Shirley Jackson\, and "Jason Who Will Be Famous” by Dorothy
Allison.  Each day’s 1‑hour session invites students to read closely\
, discuss deeply\, and write thoughtfully using two core tools: a 6‑ques
tion reading framework (analyzing the narrator\, characterization\, settin
 g\, plot\, message\, and theme) and 4 writing moves (summary\, claim\, evi
dence\, analysis).\n\nBy the end of the week\, students will:\n\n Analyze
how we use stories to define our sense of self\n Strengthen their abilit
y to support claims with textual evidence\n Participate in a Socratic sem
inar exploring the connections between texts and ideas\n Draft and refine
a short essay with guided feedback\n
