SUMMARY:Building a Better Society: Story-Driven Dialogue for ages 10-13
DESCRIPTION:In a world that is often unjust\, how do we work up the courage
to fight for what we believe is right?\n\nIn this four-day literature cou
rse\, students explore their values and beliefs about what it takes to bui
ld a "better" society through two short stories and one poem: "The Scholar
ship Jacket" by Maria Salinas\, "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut\, and
"The Hill We Climb" by Amanda Gorman (poem). Each day’s 1‑hour sessio
n invites students to read closely\, discuss deeply\, and write thoughtful
ly using two core tools: a 6‑question reading framework (analyzing the n
 arrator\, characterization\, setting\, plot\, message\, and theme) and 4 w
riting moves (summary\, claim\, evidence\, analysis).\n\nBy the end of the
week\, students will:\n\n Analyze how we resist injustice in society\n
Strengthen their ability to support claims with textual evidence\n Partic
ipate in a Socratic seminar exploring the connections between texts and id
eas\n Draft and refine a short essay with guided feedback\n
