DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, August 14 from 7-8pm EST for this session
  on an excerpt from Neil Postman's groundbreaking work\, Amusing Ourselves
  to Death. This chapter\, titled "The Peek-a-boo World"\, aptly summarizes
  the arguments of his book about the damage done by the shift from the Age
  of Typography to the Age of Television. For a book written in 1985\, Post
 man's arguments about the dangers of political discourse becoming entertai
 nment remain startingly accurate today.  His book gives us a critical fra
 mework through which to discuss the role of the modern-day media\, not onl
 y through the lens of television\, but also social media and streaming ser
 vices. As we discuss Postman's work\, we will also consider how we can bec
 ome more critical of the media we consume in order to avoid being seduced
